Mogadishu, Somalia – Officials and members of Youth Connect Somalia participated in the 9th National Youth Congress, organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Somalia.

The event, guided by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s vision of prioritizing youth employment, provided a platform for Somali youth to showcase their creativity, discuss peace and security, and engage in political participation. The initiative aims to empower Somali youth to achieve their life ambitions while fulfilling the responsibilities entrusted to the government, in line with the commitments of Prime Minister Hamsa Abdi Barre.

The 2023 Congress Focused On:

• The role of youth in peace and security
• Economic development and growth
• Showcasing youth innovation and nurturing talented youth
• Launching a national youth political agenda

Key Objectives of the Congress

• Providing Somali youth with platforms to collaborate with security agencies to strengthen national peace.
• Offering opportunities for youth to showcase their talents and innovations.
• Encouraging local and international companies, institutions, and investors to support high-quality youth initiatives.
• Motivating young leaders across politics, security, local governance, and entrepreneurship, recognizing their efforts to inspire others.
• Creating employment opportunities for youth to reduce unemployment while contributing to national security.

Throughout the congress, participants engaged in research-based discussions on youth leadership, innovation, youth in the economy, and security issues. Special sessions were held this year for youth with specific needs, allowing them to raise questions and actively participate in dialogue.

Youth Connect Somalia played a proactive role in the event, working closely with the Ministry and its staff to support the program’s success.
